Huge sign at Pollard Flats, Exit 702 misleads travelers on Sundays. Both the cafe and fuel station are closed on Sundays.

Be sure to have more at least a quarter tank of fuel before leaving between Redding and Yreka California. Traveling through the Shasta Trinity Forest can be hair raising because the terrain consumes fuel at at a higher rate; especially for those pulling trailers. Having more fuel for your vehicle is particularly more important on Sundays. There are no gas fuel exits no between Interstate freeway exits 702 and 687.

So much for being a 24 hour cafe! I-5 sign should read "Not Open Sundays." At least 30 cars a day may be wasting well needed fuel only to see this posted.

So much for being a 24 hour cafe! This fuel/cafe is designated as 24 hours at exit 702, about 40 minutes from Yreka.

To make matters worse, I-5 exit 702 is labeled as a gas exit, but not labeled “closed on Sunday” leading desperate gas seekers to a closed fuel station almost a half mile down the road.

There is however a Shell station on exit 687 to relieve Southbound and Northbound travelers. (I traveled in on fumes, one car pulling a trailer had run out of gas on the North bound).

So now that your are prepared for that, but check the water table for Lake Shasta. It’s been looking might low lately. For now, leave the boat at home.
